30k pound or 30k sing dollar?

There has been cases of conman targeted at old folks and homemakers to cheat their money and unfortunately it has happened to colleague yesterday.

My colleague received a phone call from her mother asked her to come home immediately as her brother who is studying in London has been kidnapped. The kidnapper demanded $30k as a ransom for her brother safety. Her mother told her that she could hear her brother crying and asking for help at the background. The kidnapper warned her mother not to tell her hushand or report to police or else they will kill her son. Her mom bargain with the conman to reduce the raonsom from 3oK to 10K. That sound ironically for a conman to allow $30K down to $10k. Anyway, $30k pound or $30k sing dollar? That came immediately into our mind when we knew about the incident. I know you might think we are silly or sound weird to have a such a though at this junction, well, her brother is studying in London, so naturally it came immediately to our mind, is the conman in London or Singapore? If it is in London, how are we going to transfer the money, $30k pound, that is a huge money in Singapore currency.

Her mom obeyed the conman's instruction, went to the bank and waited for my colleague to come home and draw the money. The ATM card is with my colleague. On the other hand, her father called London to look for her brother and apparently her brother is sleeping soundly in the bed and it was 4am at London's time.

Silly and stupid conman, it has caused alarm and fright to the family, especially her mom. She could not sleep and was worried for her son and her family's safety.

This is not the first case in Singapore and it has been happened quite often recently. The victims are mostly homemakers or old folks.
