The two greatest detours - FEAR (part 1/2)

In life the two great detours people face are fear and failure. All people experience fear and it's a part of life. If we allow fear to control our lives, it can be a hindrance and caused permanent damage to our life. Fear also causes procrastination. It divides our focus and weakens us. It can even make us feel isolated.

So how do we deal with fear? John C. Maxwell suggested three choices. First, you can try to avoid it altogether, which mean you stay away from every known or potential situation or person. In another word, you will avoid anything, any person you deem fear. A second way is to hope that it will go away which just like hoping some fairy godmother will come and rescue you. The third way is to deal with fear and which mean face it and overcome it.

John C. Maxwell shared a story he heard of a wife who always fear that the burglar will enter to her house and every night in the mid of sleep, she will wake her husband up, saying "Burt, wake up. I hear a burglar downstairs. Burt, wake up!" One night, a burglar entered in the house and her husband did what the burglar said. Before the burglar left, the husband said, "Wait. Before you go, could you go up and meet my wife? She has been expecting you every night for more than thirty years."

If we allowed our life to be detoured by fear, may be it is time we should examine ourself and think what is that generating our fears. If our fear is due to the past incidents, try to move beyond it. There is no point staying in the past and remain fearful. If we are worrying about petty things, remind ourself what is important to us.

It is important that we acknowledge that we are fearful and keep moving forward, rather than stay put at one position and not moving or worst, moving backward. Geroge S. Patton shared that "The time to take counsel of your fears is before you make an important battle decision. That's the time to listen to every fear you can image. When you have collected all the facts and fears and made your decision, turn off all of your fears and go ahead!"

We need to accept fear as the price of progress. Any time we try to move forward into new territory on the success journey, there is a chance that we will fail. However who will never faced fear and the most important is to conquer the fear.

Focus on things you can control. We need to know that what happens in us is more important than what happens to us. We can control our attitudes as we travel on the journey but we have no control over the actions of others. We can choose what to put on our calendar but we cannot control today's circumstances. Quite a number of times, the fear and stress that people experience in life is from things they cannot control, so do not let that happen to you.

We either feed our fears or we starve them. It mean if we continually feed our fears, it will dominates our life. If we face it and conquer it, it will make us successful. The choice is on us.
