On 3 Nov 07, at 8:30am, 4 of us (Rachel Ong, Janice Ong, Lucas Jiang and myself) gathered at the Telok Blangah SAFRA for a walk up to Mt Faber. The weather was good and the walk was relaxing and enjoying.
Mt Faber is at the junction of Kampong Bahru and Telok Blangah Road and it is one of the oldest parks and popular tourist destination in Singapore. At 110 m above sea-level, Mount Faber is Singapore's second highest hill after Bukit Timah Hill. From the park, you can take a cable car to Sentosa Island or enjoy the panoramic view of the southern park of Singapore and the southern islands. Telok Blangah Hill was the original name for Mt Faber, and it was named Mt Faber in July 1845, in honour of Captain Charles Edward Faber, Madras Engineers, who built a narrow winding road to the summit for the new signal station and flagstaff.
On 15 Aug 07, Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC) chairman Loo Choon Yong has revealed that the Singapore Tourism Board and Ministry of Trade and Industry have been tasked with turning the Mt Faber into the next lifestyle-cum-entertainment hot spot in Singapore. Mt Faber was being tapped because the 500-ha Sentosa island was "quickly running out of room" You can get the full view of the story over here. We hope that the nature of the park will remain untouched, after all we have left with very few nature parks that we can enjoy.
The walk took us about an hour or more and after the walk, we walked over to the hawker center opposite Vivo City for breakfast cum lunch. Three of us girls have roti-prata and a glass of soya bean drink, except Janice has ordered a plate of sinful food, "Char Kway Teow", on top of her one piece of roti-prata. Lucas has a big plate of rice with a lot of meals and a glass of "chin chow".
After the meal, each of us depart toward our own way. Some went home, some continue with their own activities. Overall, it was a nice and good exercise on Saturday morning.
